Reflection # 5 Word choice

The author of any poem can choose the words they like but they have to be very concentrated and exact because you can't explain them in a 100 word poem, thats why they can bring a lot of problems on the readers way of understanding. All the readers have to be alert of the meaning of those words, just to understand the poem. A great example is how E.E. Cummings was able to manage a comparison a virgin's first experience in sex with a first time riding a new car. Every part of the car compared to the girl's body parts. Thats the example of the word choice the author used.

You are most sertanly correct about the poem used in class it had a sense of symbolism and ambiguity(sorry for the lack spelling)it does have a wierd way in combining the act of deflowring a girl to the movement of a car.Is one of the most intresting poem i have read in long time.

I am in complete agree with you, the selection of the correct words in a poem is a very important aspect that influence on the meaning of it. Especially authors like Cummins, that likes to use a lot of symbolism, the decision of the words that is going to utilize in his poems is what makes them interesting.
